Job Description

The IBM York Lab, based on the campus of The University of York is looking to hire a senior technical architect or senior technical team lead.

The IBM York lab is known to be a high performing team at the forefront of innovation within Business Analytics. Our close relationship with the University over the last 6 years has enabled us to continuously expand the team with top talent from the graduate and post graduate community. We are the largest IBM On Campus team globally which allows to stay in touch with the academic community whilst still contributing significantly to the BA products teams globally.

The team based here are responsible for designing, developing and supporting a product known as IBM Planning Analytics. PA is built upon TM1, an in memory multi-dimensional OLAP engine.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a number of strategically important initiatives including the development of a digital channel, a new holistic user experience for PA plus working collaboratively with the University Computer Science department on adding cognitive capabilities into the offering.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, designing, developing and the implementation of the above. An Agile software development method is followed so, the role of scrum master and technical team lead will also be required. Quality is owned by development so ensuring the whole teams follows test driven development techniques will also be key responsibility.

York is part of the broader Business Analytics team who are based in Ottawa, Boston, and Bucharest. We operate in multidisciplinary teams and work side by side with offering management, UX designers, QA as well as multiple remote development squads in different locations.

Required Skills

  • A strong background in enterprise java web development targeting cloud infrastructures is essential.

  • Java, Web, Cloud, Agile.

  • Analytics and Cognitive (artificial intelligence and machine learning).

  • Experience of large scale software development projects is essential, ideally within a commercial software company.

  • Superb communication skills, persuasive and influential whilst remaining diplomatic and professional.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Masters required in relevant subject

  • A strong background in enterprise java web development targeting cloud infrastructures is essential.
