The IBM Hybrid Cloud design team provides a key component of design thinking for IBM Business Analytics products through cross platform interactions, visual design patterns and user experience best practices. This isn't about drawing old-fashioned pie charts, it's about visually understanding data in ways that have never been seen before.

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Visual Design Lead to augment our team to help design and implement new capabilities within the IBM Business Analytics family of products. Designers in this role will create irresistible user interfaces for strategic product and service offerings within our portfolio. He or she will work with and enhance our brand design language to produce iconic user experiences. The visual designer will use their experience in designing visual communication, layout, typography, color, etc. to elicit emotional connections and intuitive, intelligent responses from our audience.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Collaborate with designers, developers and product managers to create brilliant interface and visual design solutions from concept to final code
Contribute to storyboards & task flows designs, effectively communicating visual intentions to the design team and sponsor users
Deliver pixel perfect hi-fidelity designs to enable front end development to deliver prototypes to engineering
Iterate quickly to incorporate new concepts and test new designs
Be relentless on quality issues assuring design details are implemented correctly using best practices and meeting the overall product vision
Continually learn and grow your skills by understanding the user experience landscape and keeping up to date with the latest interaction trends, aesthetics and practices
Consult with architects, product leads and key stakeholders
Promote a user first approach to the stated problem
Possess a fundamental awareness of enterprise, technology, developer, and design trends
Team with user experience designers, design researchers and developers to ensure visual design enhances the overall user experience
Work with Design Researchers to understand stakeholders, users and the markets in which they operate
Provide visual feedback and guidance to other designers as necessary on visual design execution as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
Understand how to balance an insanely high personal bar of performance, yet still remember to have fun
Who You Are
We design visual analytics products, you are a top notch designer and highly motivated team player who isn't scared off by numbers, formulas and advanced analytics concepts. The successful candidate will be a hands on expert in visual design, capable of working with User Experience designers, Design Researchers and Developers to ensure the visual look-and-feel enhances the overall user experience of our products. Pixel perfect precision and demonstrated skills in Adobe Creative Suite, InVision, Sketch, and other design software are a must. Ability to directly lead and mentor a team of User Interface designers is a must. Experience as a Design Manager is a definite asset.
This role will involve working with technology that is covered by embargo Export Regulations. If you are a Foreign National from any of the following embargoed countries (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria) on a work permit, you are not eligible for employment in this position.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
A minimum of 5 years professional experience with 2 or more years leading, or managing, design teams
Excellent creative, conceptual, and problem solving skills
Extraordinary sense of aesthetic with research methodologies, creating personas, user scenario flows, usability testing, task analysis and information architecture
An ability to drill down to a customer's requirements
Exceptional attention to detail
Outstanding storytelling and presentation skills
Strong strategic skills in assessing business and user scenarios, approaches and deliverables
Deep understanding of objective visual design decisions
Knowledge of industry standard design tools
Knowledge of responsive and accessible design
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Graphic Design, Multimedia, HCI or related field
Portfolio with work samples that illustrate your process from start to finish
Preferred Tech and Prof Experience
Some experience with or understanding of data visualization
Some experience with or understanding of advanced analytics
Knowledge of, and experience in, the enterprise domain
Experience as a Design Manager providing direct management to a small team of designers - giving them support, helping grow careers and actively helping them manage their work
