Reporting to the Head of Revenue, The Head of Data and Programmatic Partnerships at Watson Advertising is responsible for management of the company’s existing off property data business and emerging publisher programmatic partnerships business. Watson Advertising is looking for a senior business leader with an ‘operator’ mentality who is able to help build a data and monetization partnerships business leveraging The Weather Company and IBM’s unique data and tech assets. This individual will have experience and relationships across various industries that allow s/he to negotiate and close data, media and technology-related strategic partnerships.
The focus of the role will be growing an existing data business built on strategic, long-term partnership opportunities with platforms, publishers and partners in the media/ad tech space that utilize WA’s unique data assets such as weather data, location data, audience data, etc. Potential targets for this business could be, but are not limited to: marketers, advertising agencies, ad technology companies, data companies, media companies, and/or other publishers.
Furthermore, this candidate will be a key leader to help incubate WA’s emerging programmatic partnerships business where WA’s unique data and skills in the programmatic space will be leveraged with other top publishers.
The successful candidate will need to deeply understand Weather/IBM’s existing data business, how it fits in to the current business and regulatory landscape and how to apply the company’s assets to create maximum value for clients. This leader should strive to enhance and improve our product suite, refine our value proposition, evolve our strategic positioning, and improve our understanding of the markets in which we compete. The ideal candidate has experience building and managing a large pipeline of partner relationships and structuring deals that help grow both partners’ business and our own.
This leader is a ‘get it done’ operational leader who understands how to grow emerging businesses against revenue targets within a big company atmosphere.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
15 years + of senior level business experience in the digital media/ad tech ecosystem.
Deep domain knowledge of data driven and/or programmatic media. Comfortable in deal making with ad tech business models, ad serving/exchanges, monetization strategies, data businesses and online media technologies focused on driving publisher value and revenue generation.
Established relationships in the media, data and technology ecosystem with both the supply and demand side of the business along with data and platform companies.
Entrepreneurial experience of growing a new business within a big company. Developing strategy and product and managing across teams to move the business forward.
The ability to lead all aspects of a top tier partner relationship.
Ability to work cross functionally across a matrixed WA/IBM organization.
Thought leader who keeps abreast of the evolving marketplace and can make strategic recommendations to keep TWC/IBM at the forefront of trends in the industry.
