Research Scientist- AI Solutions

At the core of IBM’s innovation are its 12 global research labs. IBM Research - Australia is a vibrant and young community within IBM Research. The lab is primarily an industry solutions lab that focuses on conceiving, designing and building next generation systems that will transform health and life sciences and financial services with technologies such as AI, Internet of Things and Blockchain. Candidates will be joining a team of researchers and software engineers to conceive, build, test and deploy solutions for some of the world’s challenging technology problems.

What will I be doing?

  • This team is focused designing and developing novel AI techniques, including using NLP, to Financial Services and related industries

  • The team is proactive both in publishing our work in top academic conferences as well as demonstrating its value with clients. What skills do I need?

  • Demonstrated experience developing NLP models e.g. classification; language translation; summarization; entity extraction leveraging neural networks.

  • Experience applying Machine Learning / Deep Learning / NLP to Enterprise datasets such as transaction or customer relationship data.

  • Experience extracting knowledge from complex document formats such as PDF and Microsoft Word.

  • Full lifecycle of machine learning project development e.g. Scope definition; data collection; ground truth collection; model development and deployment.

  • Deployment of analytics to current generation cloud architectures (e.g. micro services; Kubernetes; object store; serverless environments; Apache Spark environments)

What experience do I need?

  • At least two years of experience after a Doctorate Degree in Computer Science or related field.

  • Experience in software development, within team environments, in at least one of: Python / Java / Scala

  • Demonstrated experience with deep learning on top of open source frameworks such as (Py-Torch; Keras; Theano; Caffe; Tensorflow; DL4J)

  • Experience with traditional ML environments (e.g.Weka; Scikit Learn; SparkML; SAS; SPSS)You must be an Australian Citizen or PR holder at the time of application
