IBM AIX System Administrator - (3 months Duration) - Melbourne in MELBOURNE, Argentina

Job Description

Project Area Description The successful applicant will be responsible for the deployment of Unix servers in accordance with IBM standards.

Servers are built on various different hardware platforms and at different data centre locations. This work will be actioned under project conditions in the majority of occasions.

The successful applicant will be responsible for helping set Unix technical direction, assisting with solution design and solution QA, and supporting the Team Leaders as required.

Project team members are spread throughout various different locations, states and sometimes Countries.

Job Description (e.g. the deliverables/results the candidate is expected to achieve)Install, configure and customise the installation of Unix enterprise systems in accordance with IBM standards and the solution requirements, potentially on multiple different hardware and virtualised platforms, and into different IBM and customer environments. Ensure that the appropriate support tools are deployed in line with the client environment, support team and IBM requirements. Ensure servers are also built to the appropriate security and compliance standards.

Assist in defining and refining technical direction and helping lead innovation within the team.

Provide mentoring, knowledge transfer and written documentation so as to improve the overall level of knowledge and ability within the team.

Assist the team leaders when required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan & implement new systems and upgrades to the UNIX environment

  • Actively and pre-emptively determine possible failure faults and causes

  • Provide Team Leaders/managers with input re projects/direction when required

  • Manage and resolve problems identified by users or monitoring software

  • Work with change and problem management tools

  • Provide technical assistance to the other members of the System Administration team and Share knowledge/experiences

  • Hardware fault detection and correction - vendor liaising

  • Client facing - Liaise with customer as required

Mandatory Skills

  • Strong AIX 4.3.x; 5. X; 6.x & 7.x System administration experience

  • Strong skill in IBM Virtualization products (HMC, PowerVM, PowerHA, LPM, VIO and LPAR)

  • Strong problem determination skills

  • Ability to work unsupervised on several issues concurrently

  • Able to perform disk management functions such as extending logical volumes, creating file systems, mirroring disks (ie. Not through SMIT)

  • Understanding and ability to manually rebuild a kernel

  • Proficient in TCP/IP

  • Strong understanding of P4; P5; P6; P7 & P8 pSeries hardware architectures

  • Very comfortable with problem and change management practices

  • Knowledge of IBM and non-IBM disk subsystems and related device drivers (ESS, DS4xxx, DS8xxx, SVC, XIV, EMC, MPIO, SDDPCM, PowerPath)

  • Knowledge of IBM System p hardware products

  • System firmware related skills

  • HACMP and HACMP/ES skills

  • DNS/NTP/SMTP/DHCP skills

  • Good Documentation Skills/ Technical Documentation

  • Flexible working hrs e.g. Weekend work, after hours

  • Performance Monitoring and trouble-shooting.

  • Sound Scripting skills

  • Able to perform Operating System and Production Upgrades

  • Ability to supervise others

  • Liaise with Vendor i.e. IBM ITS

  • Strong understanding and awareness of AIX system security

  • Strong communication skills - both verbal and written

Desired Experience

  • TSM/ADSM operational and troubleshooting knowledge

  • AIX System Admin Certification

  • Some DB2/Oracle DBA exposure

  • GPFS exposure

  • Veritas (filesystem and cluster) experience

  • Knowledge of IBM SSA disk subsystem

Compensation package from $61,740 (full-time equivalent inclusive of superannuation) and will be determined based on successful candidates relevant skills and experience
