In Watson Health we have an exciting opportunity for a User Experience Designer. Our environment is ever changing and requires a candidate who is flexible and motivated and can collaborate across cross-functional groups and locations. We are looking for an experienced, hands-on User Experience (UX) Designer with a passion for innovation, creativity, quality, and bringing new capabilities to market that delight and inspire users.

Although UX Design will be your primary role, we’re looking for candidates with secondary skills in Data Visualization or Visual Design.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Communicate the intended experience through artifacts such as concept maps and models, storyboards, wireframes, taxonomies, workflows and design specification

  • Collaborate closely with product managers and development to take projects from business requirements to general availability

  • Describe design choices with user research, heuristics and usability standards

  • Lobby for and plan validation activities to ensure a delightful user experience

  • Work closely with Design Researchers to understand stakeholders, users and the markets in which they operate

  • Work closely with Visual Designers and Front-end developers to ensure intended experiences are carried through

  • Build a cross-functional team culture of transparent collaboration that results in clearly and quickly deliver ideas for feedback and iteration.

  • Participate in lean UX activities (in person and remote) in an Agile environment such as user/design research, interviews and workshops

Required Professional and Technical Expertise:

  • At least 4 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, information architect, or similar role with a customer focus

  • At least 1 year of experience working in a collaborative team and directly with developers implementing designs

  • Working experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Axure, Omnigraffle, Balsamiq and/or other design tools. A least 3 years producing accessible designs

  • At least 1 year of experience with Agile, Scrum and Lean approaches

  • Secondary skill in data visualization

  • At least 1 year of experience designing for natural language processing or artificial intelligence software

  • At least 1 year of experience designing for Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS); e.g. Application Programming Interface (API), documentation

  • Demonstrated ability to translate research findings into complex interaction designs that provide usable, effective and efficient experiences to users

  • Demonstrated ability to produce and enhance low-fidelity sketches and medium fidelity wireframes to facilitate communication of recommended solutions

  • Demonstrated ability to tell a meaningful story about the user and great presentation skills

  • Written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate alternative approaches

  • Experience designing for accessibility

  • Experience working with distributed teams

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate alternative approaches

  • A portfolio of work showing a mix of software UX/UI design experience
