IBM City Leader (m/f) in Frankfurt, Germany

Job Description

This is an exciting new management position focused on building a developer advocacy team for Berlin. The overall objective is making heroes through community and ecosystem programs in the city designed to nurture and inspire developers and build partnerships with local companies. This is a senior management role with responsibility to lead a team of developer advocates, community program leads, business developers, and technical eminence program leads who will engage developers, enterprises, startups and partners across the city through events, meetups, training programs, drop in spaces and more.

This individual is a strong technical leader with a business focus, experience driving developer advocacy, developer evangelism, developer relations and building developer communities. The ideal candidate has a strong visionary and collaborative leadership style with a deep understanding of developers, developer technologies and application development trends; excellent written and verbal communications and experience working with developers, developer communities and startups.

Externally this individual will interact directly with developers and startups in the community. Internally, this individual will work closely with IBM sales, offering management, marketing, engineering and engage with the WW developer advocacy management team for directions. This role reports to the Vice President, Developer Advocacy, Worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver an outstanding, personalized experience to 3rd party developers and startups at scale, online and offline, across the city

  • Develop an informed community strategy with appropriate metrics for measuring success, so that our developer advocates can continue to thrive, now and in the future.

  • Help define a plan to create tight relationships with IBM’s most valuable and engaged 3rd party developers and startups in the city.

  • Help plan online and in-person events for the IBM developer advocates, 3rd party developers, and startups in the city

  • Maintain multiple community channels

  • Capture the external feedback that our entire division needs to hear. Share it by working with the developer advocacy, marketing, sales, OM and development teams.

  • Lead a team of developer advocates, technical eminence program managers, community managers and business development managers to create and execute a city wide program to engage and win developers and startups.

  • This role will also oversee and manage a team of developer advocates located in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DASCH).

Skills and Experience:

  • +2 years of experience managing and running a Developer Advocate Team

  • +5 yearsof management experience

  • +10 years of engineering and developer experience

  • Demonstrated experience in leading the development of developer communities; Arranging Meetups, Hackathons, Developer Challenges and large community events.

  • Experienceinengaging with senior leadershipinternally andexternally

  • Track record of engaging with VC and Angel communities

  • Passion for sharing and for other developers' success

  • Demonstrated experience of advocacy for a technology, brand or cause

  • Demonstrated track record of understanding and engaging with the Startup eco-system, including understanding of fund raising and operations of startups.

  • Great communication skills, includingwriting and speaking totechnicalaudiences

  • Understanding of awide range ofmodern cloud, IoT, languages and AIconceptsand architectures

  • Recognized in the industry as a technology leader with public speaking experience

  • Languages: German and fluent in English

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering or equivalent experience
