Position Description:

IBM's Global Travel & Transportation team is looking for an experienced Business Development Leader to address strategic imperatives, business and technology needs for clients in the Rail industry.

The Business Development Leader will be responsible for developing the business, integrated proposition and solution offerings for the Rail industry clients in Greater China and extend support to Asia Pacific and Japan geographies. This leader will develop deep relationships within our clients and industry partners and work closely with our global teams and in country services teams GBS and GTS and the Industry Business Units (Cloud, Analytics, Mobile, Social, and Security) Watson and Blockchain teams. The candidate will be based in China with primary focus on all organizations of China Rail Corporation group.


This position is responsible for making a significant contribution to IBM’s business results in the global Travel & Transportation Industry and our Rail business in Greater China. The role will be part of global industry team interacting externally with clients and business partners and internally within IBM business units, functionally and geographically dispersed but focused on individual large accounts, or a set of accounts in the sector. He/she will need to form highly effective relationships with brand and business unit teams globally, with the objective of developing an integrated and coordinated solution strategy and go to market approach.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

Domain expertise:

Candidates must be able to demonstrate a good balance of expertise in some/many of these business areas covering both Passenger and Freight Rail:

  • Customer Experience Management, Network Planning & Scheduling, Enterprise Asset Management, Supply Chain Management, Multi-Modal, Warehouse Management, Partner Network Integration, Analytics & Big Data, Predictive Maintenance and the Internet of Things (IoT)

It is expected that the candidate will either have prior consulting/integration experience or software sales/business development experience in the Rail industry and in the subject area(s) identified above. Experience as a consultant for a global technology/services company would be an advantage. Candidates may have also worked for a national/international Railroads. The candidate should have Greater China experience and expertise on China Rail Corporation.

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

Industry knowledge:

Background and experience working with large national/international companies with operational experience in various business domains. Demonstrated experience leading business development, planning and sales for Rail Industry products and services for large national/multi-national companies

Technical knowledge:

Experience with technologies in Rail operations, customer experience/CRM, operations & maintenance, cognitive computing, and distributed information management systems and services are important.
