IBM is looking for an Analyst Relations Manager to raise the visibility of IBM Research as a preeminent thought leader and patent generator. The manager will work closely with researchers and engineers to deeply understand the technologies they are developing. He/she must generate creative messaging material and present this to key analysts and influencers who cover the emerging technologies space. The materials must be nuanced in a way that the influencers understand that the technology being discussed is eminent yet perhaps not available in the market. Sometimes ideas are concepts demonstrating technology and thought leadership. Additionally, the manager will work with IBM’s Channels organization to target influencers that can amplify IBM’s channel transformation. We need you the candidate to influence the influencers so that they speak and write about IBM favorably.
This role will give the candidate exposure to new and emerging technologies that will drive the future of IBM. The candidate will need to link what IBM Business Units are doing today and to the emerging technologies of tomorrow. The Analyst Relations Manager will play a critical, cross-functional role by working with experts at many different levels of the organization across product management, engineering, communications, sales and marketing teams. The candidate will interact with colleagues across IBM’s global offices to build and nurture strong internal relationships that will be leveraged to engage with leading analyst firms and influencers to help elevate IBM’s story and customer successes.
The Analyst Relations Manager should have a strong background in putting strategic content together with an eye for key competitive differentiation. Significant experience presenting material in large and small venues. Also, a background in market research, communications, data analysis, and competitive positioning. This role requires the ability to work on multiple fast paced projects at the same time, strong analytical skills, and experience evaluating qualitative and quantitative research in the tech sector. This candidate must enjoy growing and nurturing relationships and influencing analysts.

Develop, manage and execute a targeted Analyst Relations plan for IBM Research and Business Partners; educate the most influential industry analysts who work with existing or prospective IBM customers, key global media and financial markets. Embed with the business unit to influence strategy and improve analyst perceptions and relationships year-over-year.
Influence analyst research on IBM, its competitors and the markets that IBM competes in; shape the perception of IBM and the value it brings to its customers.
Monitor the competitive landscape and strategic developments in your area of focus; share relevant analyst research and implications with senior management to shape BU strategy and offerings.
Connect key IBM executives with expert analysts for advisory sessions to help define and influence offering strategy.
Collaborate with colleagues in marketing, sales, offering management, communications, legal and BU leadership to ensure that IBM is getting the best representation with the analyst community.
Manage and procure paid strategic research projects on behalf of IBM to ensure that key analyst firms are actively engaged with IBM offerings.
Develop a keen understanding of how to build credible and impactful relationships with key influencers and leading industry analysts. Honesty, tenacity and consistency.
Co-Create and Co-execute plans for IBM and third-party AR external events that complement and validate IBM’s corporate messaging and strategy andby incorporatinge actual customer use cases.
This role is located at IBM offices in Boston, MA (Cambridge) or New York (Yorktown).
Candidate must be willing to travel up to 50% to meet in person with Business Unit executives and key global analysts and influencers.
Applicants must have the ability to work in the US without current/future need for IBM sponsorship.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
• Experience working in or covering the tech industry, either in a systems, services or software organization/function.
• Experience in AI, Deep Learning, Blockchain, IoT, Analytics, Cloud, Quantum Computing, Channels/Partnerships
• 10+ years of diverse work experience in more than one functional area such as: analyst relations, market research, consulting, product management, communications or strategy roles.
• Experience building a product and taking it through full commercialization.
• Executive presence to counsel to senior management regarding the market, competitive landscape and analyst outlook. Candidates must have the tenacity, determination and patience to be able to challenge conventional thinking and processes.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Tech and Prof Experience
• Experience as a senior analyst at a leading industry or equity research firm in area of emerging technologies
• Existing relationships with leading industry analysts/influencers in emerging technologies space
• Advanced Degree in the Engineering/Sciences, Math, Computer Science and/or MBA Strategy
