IBM Research is seeking a Modelmaker to work at the T. J. Watson Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. You will work in a Machine Shop environment with scientists and engineers to fabricate parts and assemblies for research apparatus working from verbal instruction, samples, rough sketches or formal engineering drawings. Will use mechanical machine tools (lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, etc), hand tools and precision measuring tools to provide high quality workmanship.High School degree is required.The World is Our Laboratory: No matter where discovery takes place, IBM researchers push the boundaries of science, technology and business to make the world work better. Experience in set-up and safe operation of conventional and numerically controlled Model Shop Machine Tools including Milling Machines, Lathes, Surface Grinders, etc.
Ability to work to close machining tolerances with a high level of quality and precision
Ability to work with a team to analyze and contribute to design efforts and build moderately complex research apparatus with minimal direct supervision
Possess a working knowledge of standard parts inspection methods and the use of precision measuring tools
Fluent in the use of Computer Aided Machining Software (i.e. Mastercam)
Proven organizational skills
