IBM Senior Architect - Cloud Security in Raleigh, North Carolina

The Senior Architect – Cloud Security will design and build Cloud enabled Managed Security Services (MSS) offerings. The person in this role will work with MSS Offering teams as well as key technical leaders to enhance Cloud Managed Security Services that extend across hybrid ecosystems. He/she will identify critical technologies and products to incorporate as part of the service and enable MSS to those. In addition to building new services capabilities, he/she should enable operational workflows for the services such as privilege identity management, privilege user monitoring, system authentication and password recover, system monitoring and recording, system failover and fallback during disaster recovery operations, which could be performed in a reliable/predictable fashion through automation. The Senior Architect will play a pivotal role in achieving quantifiable operational benefits through identifying key requirements and designing solutions based on those requirements and leading implementation of those solutions. The Senior Architect will interface with offering teams and technical leaders to enhance IBM's strategic, multiyear roadmap for cloud security services and collaborate with engineering teams, operations managers and staff to develop and deploy those services. Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The Senior Architect will employ a combination of personal experience, intuitive understanding (i.e. tribal knowledge) and empirical measurements to identify a spectrum of cloud security services that are required in the market. Empirical measurements may be derived from market analysis, business intelligence from analysts, IBM cloud projections. The Senior Architect will also collaborate with key members of the MSS Operations Management team and Engineering teams - specifically those individuals responsible enabling MSS platform.

  • The Senior Architect should establish a ‘best practice’ framework for employing IBM and 3rd party tools that are optimally suited to provide cloud security services to client. The Senior Architect will work closely with IBM and 3rd party product development teams, sharing the results of his/her experience and ensuring that future versions of specific products have the functionality required to support our strategic cloud security objectives. In addition, the Senior Architect will research, test and recommend new and/or complementary technologies offered by other vendors that can contribute to our cloud security initiatives.

  • The Senior Architect will have ‘hands on’ responsibility for installing, configuring and operating specific cloud security solutions within IBM and Non-IBM service providers. Furthermore, he/she will be responsible for evangelizing such practices throughout MSS deployment, operations team and mentoring staff members to enable specific cloud security solutions.

  • The Senior Architect will monitor the effectiveness of cloud security solutions post implementation, and validate achievement of business case benefits.

Technical Skills:

  • Deep understanding of various cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, SoftLayer, Google, etc)

  • Deep knowledge virtualization environments

  • Familiarity with infrastructure automation

  • Knowledge and understanding of Hybrid cloud configurations, patterns, and practices

  • Have understanding of security technologies deployed as part of the cloud environment

  • Should have implemented workloads on various cloud service providers

  • Ability to understand and work with various APIs

  • Scripting languages, ability to leverage existing scripts and also to create new

  • Advanced level Windows , Unix – to create and support required adapter

  • Networking knowledge – To trouble shoot support remote agent connection

  • Knowledge about IPC tools such as BMC Remedy, Device monitoring tools , Qradar, system management tools is essential

  • Must be self-motivated as well as creative and efficient in proposing solutions to complex, time-critical problems

  • Ability to understand and communicate technical issues and ability to work with globally diverse teams

  • Desired additional skills: knowledge of MicroSegmentation, Hypervisor, Network Virtualization, and SDN


  • At least 10 years of IT infrastructure experience

  • 5 years of deep understanding and experience with various cloud solution implementations

  • 3 Years of Cloud Security tools implementation experience

  • 3 years of cloud security architecture experience across cloud service providers Amazon AWS and/or MS Azure

  • Up to 25% travel required
