The Role:We are currently looking for a suitable candidate to be part of an ambitious project with a prestigious pan European network of partners. The challenge is to help design and implement complex driver assistance systems using insights derived from data collected using visual and other IoT sensor technologies. Within the project IBM will work with its partners in developing capability to better understand vehicle, driver and scene context with the aim of producing advancements that will ultimately enable semi-autonomous vehicles. The project will strive to limit human error by the study of real road traffic incidents in order to understand situational patterns and consequences as an input to the system. The Person:A person with relevant wireless network design and implementation domain knowledge and demonstrable R&D experience is required. Someone with strong network and communications skills, particularly packet & bulk transfer across WiFi, 3G, 4G etc would be a good candidate for this role. A candidate who has previously designed and developed ad hoc wireless networks with access in vehicular environments and has a good understanding and appreciation of the underlying network communication protocols would be an ideal fit but this is not necessarily required. The successful candidate will work with team members to share experience and ideas to deliver a combined system design for vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to cloud infrastructure and network operation. A high level of initiative and personal drive is required as this will be an environment where you will be joining the project at ground level and helping to lead the design and shape of technical solutions as well as implementing them.   • A Master’s Degree, PhD or a Bachelor Degree holder with significant professional experience in Electronic Engineering, Computer science or a related field.

  • An in depth knowledge of state of the art in data communications standards and telecommunication technologies.

  • Experience developing solutions based on and implementing IEEE 802.11 or similar media access control (MAC) specifications and protocols.

  • Experience designing wireless networks with respect to:

  • Data Rate and Throughput

  • Network optimization

  • Simultaneous connection of large scale wireless sensor networks

  • Network coverage

  • Latency

  • A minimum 2 years Java/JEE or C++ development experience.

  • A minimum of 2 years scripting skills including Python, TCL, Unix Shell scripts (ksh, csh, bash, and sh) or equivalent.

  • Experience of Object Oriented Design, Programing and Unit Testing.

  • User level expertise for RDBMS– DB2 or Oracle.
