Job description

IBM is seeking an experienced technical pre sales specialist in the Midwest Region who is interested in furthering their established career by working closely with our world-class channel business partners in driving their software sales.

As a Channel Technical Pre Sales Specialist you will apply your technical expertise to help targeted existing and newly recruited Business Analytics partners develop their technical acumen in sales opportunity progression. To accomplish this, you will be responsible for teaming with the executive and/or technical leadership at the business partners to develop and implement technical enablement plans to mentor the technical staff to sell Business Analytics products and deliver quality solution applications using those products. Provide technical assistance and leadership for Partner activities such as regional workshops, user group meetings, sales seminars and trade shows.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated technical account management experience leading Business Intelligence or Risk Analytics sales cycles. Additionally the candidate will be responsible for showcasing their superior analytic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate compelling solutions via prototypes, presentations, and product demonstrations and be able to transfer that same process knowledge to a partner and mentor the partner to do the same.

The candidate must be able to work and thrive in a highly matrixed management environment with responsibilities and communications across many functional business disciplines including partners, sales representatives, channel managers, direct regional representatives, enablement teams and product management. Working in a virtual office capacity and excelling in that style is paramount.

Attributes desired:

  • Proven record of becoming a trusted advisor and leader to clients
  • Ability to establish relationships with client and partner technical leaders & executives
  • Channels experience - understanding of different partner business models, channel programs, etc.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication and presentation skills

  • At least 5 years experience in Technical Enterprise SW Sales
  • At least 1 year experience in Cognos Business Analytics or SPSS
  • Readiness to travel 25% travel annually
  • English: Fluent


  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 7 years experience in Technical Enterprise SW Sales
  • At least 3 years experience in Proof of Concept and Demonstration Strategies
  • At least 3 years experience in relational data modeling priciples and techniques
  • At least 5 years experience in Cognos Business Analytics or SPSS
