The Team: The Innovation Exchange Team is a relatively new and unique ecosystem within IBM. The Role: Cloud / Automation Engineer The Innovation Exchange Team are currently looking for a person to be part of a hugely adventurous and exciting project that has arisen out of the EU H2020 arena. The challenge is to help design and implement a Shared European Logistics Intelligent Information Space to provide common communication and navigation platforms for pan-European logistics applications. The proposed Shared European Logistics Intelligent Information Space (SELIS) is a network of logistic communities’ specific shared intelligent information spaces termed SELIS Community Nodes (SCN). SCNs are constructed by individual logistics communities to facilitate the next generation of collaborative, responsive and agile green transportation chains. SCNs link with their participants’ existing systems through a secure cloud based infrastructure and provide shared information and tools for data acquisition and use. Connected SELIS nodes provide a distributed common communication and navigation platform for Pan European logistics applications. This is a three year European Commission project. The Required Person: A person with solid and demonstrable technical skills and experience is required. Someone who has previously developed solutions for cloud platforms and has a good understanding and appreciation of the underlying infrastructure aspects for which they will be developing on. Ideally you will have:
Previous experience and ideas to offer relating to the integration of diverse platforms, toolset development, automation and cross platform packaging and deployment of applications.
A high level of initiative and personal drive is required as this will be an environment where you will be coming in at the ground level to help design and shape the technical solutions as well as implementing them, for one of the most exciting and ambitious projects ever attempted in the logistics arena.
Excellent verbal and written communication is essential, as is fluency in English and report writing and documentation skills.
A strong focus on business outcomes.
Comfortable with collaboration, open communication and reaching across functional borders.
Solid experience with Linux.
Strong understanding of automation & configuration tools/management (Docker/CHEF etc).
Experience in implementing and supporting cloud infrastructure and on premise infrastructure.
Experience working in a virtualised environment. (VMware, KVM or Xen).
Strong understanding of, and ability to, code and script (Python, Perl, Ruby, Bash etc).
Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service.
Understanding of TCP/IP networking protocols, DNS, IPv4 Routing, basic network troubleshooting.
Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and tools.
Experience with monitoring of platforms, servers, services and applications to ensure SLA’s etc.
Comfortable with frequent, incremental solution testing and deployment.
Data management skills.
