IBM-Plant Location International (PLI) is a business unit of the consulting division of IBM Corporation, based in Brussels, Belgium. IBM-PLI is specialized in location strategies and economic development consulting. We are permanently working with a team of interns that assist the IBM-PLI team with research and analysis of foreign investment data. Typical activities are:
Research multiple data sources to gather/validate information on announced foreign investments around the world, and feed this information into our proprietary Global Location Trends database. This database forms the basis for analysis of foreign investment trends around the world (see the Global Location Trends report as example on www.ibm.com/gbs/pli).
Perform analysis and prepare reports on the basis of these foreign investment data for a specific geography (group of countries) or industry.
On an ad hoc basis, interns may be requested to support with research tasks related to IBM-PLI's client consulting work, but this is not a primary task for the interns.Note that the work that IBM-PLI performs is frequently confidential in nature. Therefore, the opportunities for IBM-PLI interns to produce publicly available reports or documents on the basis of research at IBM-PLI are extremely limited (for example: no thesis). The internships are offered for a maximum period of 60 working days per academic year. Working location will be IBM Belgium's offices in Brussels, where the intern will join the IBM-PLI team, and a team of other international interns.Due to Belgian legislation we can only accept students that have European citizenship OR are enrolled in a Belgian university. The student must be registered at a high-school or a university with the purpose of obtaining a master's or Bachelor's degree. Students who have already graduated are no more eligible, even if supported by the school, unless they have a new school registration in place to obtain an additional degree. If you are interested in applying for this internship, please submit both of the following two documents:
motivation letter: clearly describe your understanding of, and interest/motivation for the internship in our team (this is an important selection criteria for the internship!), and during which period you expect to be available
your detailed CV
Education or strong demonstrated interest in international business / foreign investment
Fluent English language skills: reading, speaking and writing
Proficient in MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
Understanding of international business concepts (e.g. FDI), and good geographical knowledge
Additionally, the candidates should be fluent in minimal one more major global language (other than English) to support our global research on foreign investment data. Especially languages such as Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Arabic are required permanently. Other languages are of interest as well.
