IBM Watson Health - Senior Research Analyst - Truven in Austin, Texas

The Sr. Analyst has a primary role to provide analytic support to one or more business areas within Life Sciences: Outcomes Research, Economic Modeling, Literature Review, Value Dossier, and Market Analytics. The Sr. Research Analyst not only has significant responsibility for analytic support of the research project, but also supplements project management activities, provides input into the development of new business proposals, mentors junior staff, and assists with other on-going project work as needed.

Essential Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Outcomes Research, Market Analytics

  • Support Research Leaders in all aspects of projects

  • Develop study protocol and file specifications for review by Research Leader/Lead Analyst and other members of project team.

  • Work closely with Programmer on most effective way to implement complex methodologies and build study analytic file.

  • Perform data investigation on diagnostic, descriptive, and statistical output throughout the course of each research project. Suggest and implement changes in methodology based on output review.

  • Prepare deliverables for client presentation (final written reports, slide decks, technical memoranda, posters, podium presentations, and manuscripts).

  • Attend and present at client meetings when requested.

Economic Modeling

  • Provide key support with reviewing published literature and conducting data/information abstraction research to identify, collect, and summarize data for building health economic models.

  • Support Research Leader in developing model specifications and conceptual model design.

  • Assume primary role in developing economic models using Microsoft Excel (with Visual Basic macros) and other modeling software, such as TreeAge Pro.

  • Apply principles of pharmacoeconomics to conduct economic modeling analyses, including cost-effectiveness/cost-utility analyses and budget impact analyses.

  • Prepare deliverables for client presentation (summary memos, written reports, slide decks, abstracts, posters, podium presentations, and manuscripts).

  • Attend and present at client meetings when requested.

  • Support Research Leader with general project organization, day-to-day project management, and client communications.

Literature Review and Value Dossier

  • Support Research Leaders in all aspects of projects, including internal project team management, developing literature search algorithms, conducting gray literature searches, assembling protocols, screening for relevance, retrieving articles, developing data abstraction tool, supervising and editing article abstraction

  • Draft literature summaries in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint.

  • Write literature synthesis in Word or PowerPoint providing interpretation of the literature and observations of patterns and trends identified in a body of evidence

  • Draft global and AMCP value dossiers

  • Contribute to writing abstracts and manuscripts for publication

This position can be located in Cambridge, MA, Ann Arbor, MI, Greenwood, CO, or Bethesda, MD.

  • 6-7 years previous healthcare industry and/or quantitative work experience related to pharmaceutical industry or health research.

  • 1-5 years experience with outcomes research using administrative claims, survey data, or other patient level data, economic modeling, literature review, meta analysis, value dossiers, patient report outcomes (PROs) and health technology assessments (HTAs) are highly preferred.

  • 1 - 3 years working with data storage in relational and or flat file environments and how data is manipulated using SAS or other similar languages.
