The Watson Health Cloud Foundational Services organization provides the capabilities such as resiliency, security, performance, systems management, identity & access, DevOps, PaaS and infrastructure services to the entire IBM Watson Health business. The Cloud Foundation Platform Services organization is looking for a VMWare Expert to join our Engineering team as the Lead Engineer for VMware Virtualization. The Foundational Services Engineering team is responsible for testing, designing and implementing infrastructure systems and solutions driven by HIPAA and GxP policies and standards. This includes server and storage virtualization, system performance, network automation, SDN, APIs for IaaS and PaaS, secure user management, and VM security, patching, data destruction, logging and auditing. As a member of the Cloud Infrastructure Engineering team, you will have the following responsibilities:
Work closely with functional-area specialists, cloud engineers, and compliance specialists to
Lead the engineering of our VMware-based server and storage virtualization stack for WH Cloud
Ensure adequate VMware virtualization solutions and controls are in place throughout Watson Health Cloud platform, services, and solutions
Provide VMware expertise for cloud-based DevOps development and deployment
Ensure project teams comply with regulatory compliance and best practices
Automate VMware solutions and controls
Analyze risk based on vulnerabilities, threats, and security posture
Vigorously promote adoption of industry VMware best practices
Keep current with industry security trends
Plan and run a VMware test environment
Manage VMware lifecycle
Design server hardware management. HW configuration, HW firmware update, HW monitoring
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
5 or more years demonstrated hands-on experience in:
VMware technologies (vSphere, DRS, vDC, IBM SVC, SAN, ESXi, VMware HA, VMware SRM).
In Cloud and Cloud technologies and experience with multi-tenant VMware infrastructures.
3 or more years experience with vRealize Orchestrator and System-x Hardware (Lenovo/IBM).
Experience with Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI).
Experience with setting up environments, running PoCs, recommending future direction for VMware on SoftLayer or standalone DC.
